In Dental 359 Blog, Team Profile

Dr. Hooman Golestani – Principal Dentist

What is something clients don’t know about you?
I’d like to think that most people do not know that I am a car nut!
I love old cars. But I think most people know that by now!
What most people do not know is that I have an antique teacup collection. Over the years I’ve purchased and been gifted some rare beauties. My favourite ones are the pre-war Japanese sets gifted by a dear patient.

Why does dental interest you?
First: I love to meet people and I love engaging with them. Once I get to know them, I can cater to their needs but more importantly treat them as a friend. Secondly, I love fine things and try to use my skills and equipment to create fine dentistry. I used to make model cars as a child. Now I use the same precision and excellence to help people!

Who inspires you?
Children with learning or especially physical challenges. To watch a child with Cerebral Palsy stand, walk and maybe even dance for the first time and see the smile and excitement on their face for achieving something impossible, now that inspires me to do more with what I have been gifted with.

Dr. Devindha De Mel – Associate Dentist

At this point, everything I guess. Let’s go with my wife! We did our entire dating and engaged life long distance.

What is your most memorable travelling experience?
This has to be the trip to France and Italy in 2018. The whole thing was one big highlight.

A quote you live by?
‘’I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die to find out there isn’t than live as if there isn’t and to die to find out that there is’’ – Albert Camus.

Sapphire Revill – Patient Coordinator & PA to Dr. Golestani

What is something clients don’t know about you?
I am the youngest of seven children (five brothers and one sister).
Growing up with a large family was certainly ‘’interesting’’ but I would not change it for the world! We have beautiful memories and now the family is expanding even further with nieces and nephews! Very exciting times.

What do you like most about your job?
I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such talented people every day, and to be a part of a team that changes the lives of our wonderful patients.
We are a close-knit team and I consider all to be like my second family- I count my blessings every day that I am fortunate enough to work at Dental 359.

What are you reading at the moment?
I have just finished reading ‘’The Dry’’ and I am slowly coming to terms with the fact it is over. I could not put it down.
I am currently on the hunt for my next read so please forward any suggestions my way.

What is something clients don’t know about you?

In 2017, I went to Cambodia to volunteer at an Orphanage and elephant sanctuary. Though it was some time ago, I still think about the experiences I had and the people I was able to help. The trip was so humbling and makes me so thankful for what we have here in Australia.

What do you love most about your job?

My favourite part of my job is watching people make positive changes to their oral health. I believe that oral health is a key part of maintaining overall health and wellbeing, and I find it very rewarding to help my patients make those positive changes.

What music do you like listening to?

I have a very wide music range that I like listening to.  It really depends on the day. At the moment, I mainly find myself listening to genres such as Indie pop and alternative dance music. My favourite band at the moment is the Australian group Safia. I try and see them every time they perform in Perth.

Why did you become a dental assistant?

Growing up I always had good memories of feeling very comforted and looked after by my dentist and his dental nurse. I thought it would be a fitting job for me to provide the same for patients.

What is something clients don’t know about you?

I am a die-hard morning person- I am normally up at 5 am, even if I wanted to sleep in I wouldn’t! There is something so peaceful about the early morning that I would never want to miss it because I am asleep.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Naples, Italy, because you can’t think of Italy without thinking of its delicious cuisine. The birthplace of pizza. This, my kids, will love it!

Who inspires you?

“It’s not about how much you do, but how much love you put into what you do that counts.” – Mother Teresa –

I have just gone back to university after 31 years, starting a part-time Fine Arts degree at UWA.

What is your favourite movie?

I have many favourite movies and love to watch foreign films.  One of the latest I would recommend is Capernaum, directed by a brilliant Lebanese woman, Nadine Labaki. You will be affected by this movie.

Do you have any unique hobbies?

Creative pursuits of any kind. After years of looking after my family and responsibilities for the financial management of our business, I find comfort and joy in rediscovering the arts.
