Do you have Sensitive Teeth? Here’s 4 tips to help!

 In Dental 359 Blog

Tooth sensitivity can be extremely painful and frustrating to deal with. Whether you’re craving a nice hot cup of coffee or some refreshing cold water, your tooth sensitivity can get in the way.

Here are a few helpful tips to minimise tooth sensitivity!

  1. Check your brushing technique
You may be very enthusiastic about cleaning your teeth which can lead to brushing aggressively. Although it may seem like scrubbing those pearly whites may be the best way to keep your teeth clean, it can lead to gum recession. When your gums recede it exposes the sensitive areas of the teeth. When you brush, use gentle circular motions rather than brushing back and forth.

  1. Stay away from sugary, acidic foods and beverages
Your tooth sensitivity may be caused by the acidic foods you consume. Beverages which contain high amounts of sugar and acid can cause tooth enamel to erode. Water will always be the best option as it contains natural fluoride which protects your teeth from cavities.

  1. Make a change in your toothpaste choice
Toothpastes that have whitening agents in them can be abrasive on your teeth, so when choosing a toothpaste, select one specified for sensitive teeth. We recommend Sensodyne or Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief.
