Porcelain Veneers- Benefits, Cost and the Process

 In Dental 359 Blog

What are veneers?

Dental or porcelain Veneers (sometimes known as porcelain teeth) are a thin layer of porcelain placed over a tooth to improve the aesthetics and function of a tooth. They will enhance the beautiful appearance of your smile whether you want to change a few teeth or want a complete Smile Makeover. Porcelain Veneers are shells of ceramic material which are chemically bonded to the tooth structure. When considering Veneers, the shape of your face, smile line and complexion are looked at to determine the final result.

Are there different types of veneers?

Some Dentists may recommend restoring the tooth with a layer of Composite Resin, which is a cheaper alternative to porcelain, however, porcelain is a superior material in terms of strength, quality, aesthetics and longevity.

Composite veneers can dull and stain over time and will require more frequent replacement, making them less cost-effective in the long run.

Why choose porcelain veneers?

Porcelain Veneers are a perfect solution for people with teeth that are chipped, stained, or who have a smile with small gaps or overlaps. Here at Dental 359, we achieve fantastic results using Veneers. As they bond to the front surface of your teeth, they camouflage minor dental and orthodontic concerns.

Veneers are a less invasive option than crowns, as they require minimal tooth removal, and achieve results much faster than orthodontics.

You may be considering porcelain veneers if you have:

  • Spaces between teeth
  • Slightly disproportionate Teeth
  • Cracked or chipped teeth
  • Worn Teeth
  • Teeth that are two small or two large
  • Poorly shaped teeth
  • Permanently stained teeth
  • Badly positioned teeth

Do veneers damage your teeth?

Porcelain veneers don’t harm your teeth in any way as long as you see a qualified cosmetic Dentist like Dr Golestani. During your consultation, Dr Golestani will discuss the process of preparing your natural teeth for veneers, and x-rays will be taken to ensure your teeth are healthy and free of decay prior to treatment. In some cases, we may need to treat your teeth before we can begin the process of placing veneers.

How long do veneers last?

International research suggests that the reasonable life expectancy of porcelain veneers should be 10-12 years on average. Technique-sensitive and strict protocols and quality measures are required. Following such protocols takes time, expertise and artistic license.

This can only occur if you follow the advice given by your Dentist once treatment is complete:

  • Regular professional and home care maintenance is carried out
  • Gum health is assessed on a regular and ongoing basis (2 visits a year)
  • Your teeth are protected from the damage of nighttime grinding by wearing a splint
  • You are using your teeth for eating food only! Stay away from chewing ice or opening plastic bags

What is the cost of veneers?

Here at Dental 359, we always recommend beginning with a consultation so that we may provide you with an accurate estimate of costs.
Once a consultation has taken place, Dr Golestani will have a better understanding of his patient’s concerns and how to achieve the result they desire.

In your consultation, Dr Golestani will prepare a comprehensive treatment plan and estimate costs.  This will differ for every patient as everyone’s needs are unique.
